RESTAURANTS • FOUND Table
The Backstory: Chef Daniel Evers, formerly chef de cuisine at SF’s dearly departed AL’s Place, dedicates nearly half of his menu at Itria to raw fish. Three years in, the modern Italian restaurant is still pushing boundaries in the Mission.
The Experience: Steps from 24th St. BART station, Itria might be one of the Bay Area’s most accessible dining destinations. Step inside to find hushed lighting through the 60-seat dining room, rustic wooden tables, and exposed brick accents. There’s also a 10-seat wine bar and a skylit back room with a view into the kitchen.
The tasting menu is the way to go here, with two generous crudo courses followed by three pasta courses and dessert. Recent crudo highlights included ocean trout with pickled green tomato and shishito peppers, and amberjack with stone fruit acqua pazza, avocado, and mint. There’s an ample wine and sake list, the latter of which pairs surprisingly well with the pastas, like pillowy stuffed agnolotti with hen of the woods mushrooms, roasted corn, and chives.
Why It's FOUND: Itria does crudo and pasta exceptionally well, finding clever ways to bring culinary worlds together in an excellent tasting-menu experience. –Adrian Spinelli
